MEDIEVAL BEASTS

Animals played a dominant role in the everyday life of the Middle Ages. They formed the backbone of a farm-based economy, served as instantly recognizable visual symbols, and were imagined to be the fantastic inhabitants of unknown realms. Motifs for the Medieval Beasts collection are drawn from late 13th and early 14th-century brocades and woven Sicilian textiles. Fictional and symbolic beasts and animals are masterfully hand embroidered on canvas and silk, in metallic and silk thread.
