USTAAD NASEER-UD-DIN-SAAMI

Every morning for the past month, we have been listening to this hypnotic and transcendental piece of music by Pakistani singer Ustaad Naseer-ud-Din Saami. Infused with pre-Islamic elements, the Indian classical tradition of khayal and Sufi qawwali – at risk of extinction, Saami’s music has its roots in the 13th century but is extremely modern and provocative.

We welcome you to LostCity with this beautiful ode to a finger-ring. Ancient. Trippy. Futuristic.

Mundari
Mundari Mori Kaahe Ko
Mundari Mori Kaahe Ko
Chheen Laeen Chhailawa
Kaha Kiyo Main Tora
Mundari Mori Kaahe Ko
Mundari Mori Kaahe Ko
Chheen Laeen Chhailawa
Mundari Mori Kaahe Ko
Chheen Laeen Chhailawa
Mundari Mori Mori Mori
Kaahe Mori Mori Mori
Nek Anek Abhi Banaai Abhi Jaraai
Sundarri

Mundari Mori Kaahe
Kaahe Ko Chheen Laeen Chhailawa
Kaha Kiyo Main Tora
Mundari Mori.

 Finger Ring
My finger ring – why are you
snatching it, dashing lover
what did I do to you
I just had it made, so rich and splendid
I just had it studded with jewels, the beauty
finger ring
my finger ring – why
why are you snatching it, dashing lover
what did I do to you
my finger ring
