During the late Ottoman period, in Turkey, embroidery was carried out on a number
of levels. Kasnak isi (tambour work) takes its name from the frame it was
embroidered upon. This technique is based exclusively on a chain stitch.
Floor-spreads, barber robes, and prayer cloths were produced using this
technique. (18th – 19th century)
