Anna Maria Garthwaite began designing silks in England in the mid 1720’s. Her
family was acquainted with several naturalists of the period, which may
account for the skilled rendering of flowers seen in her work. This trail
of flowers on a vine is from one of her designs for woven silk. (18th century)
